Musical Theatre with ELLIE REYNOLDS and BESSIE WAPP
September 21 @ 7:30 pm$18 – $20
“On the Other Hand: Two True Musical Tales of Choice”
Reynolds & Wapp’s pieces tell true personal stories about challenging, life-changing choices, and each is informed by, and contains music from, a well-known stage musical.
In Reynold’s piece, Matchmaker on the Roof, characters & songs from Fiddler on the Roof add intergenerational resonance to her true story of bold love, border crossing, and the rediscovery of tradition.
In Wapp’s piece, Jesus Christ Superstore, the soundtrack of that cult classic film underscores a bittersweet visit to a big box store in search of a morning after pill on Easter weekend.
The artists hope their evening of intimate, personal theatre will inspire residents of our region to reflect on events in their own lives, their sense of social and cultural belonging, and the courage that brings each of us to who and where we find ourselves today. These pieces were performed and well received in Gray Creek and Creston in June, supported by the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance.
