The volunteer board at Taghum Hall has taken on a variety of large projects to enhance the community facility. There are ample volunteer opportunities should anyone wish to get involved. Please be in touch!
Grounds Development Project
NEWLY INSTALLED: Playground, Gazebo, accessible pathway, sitting areas, picnic tables, concession stand, lawns & gardens, and a commemorative walkway for Residential School children. Various grants and sponsors made this project possible: RDCK Areas E & F, Nelson’s Lion Club, and Columbia Basin Trust. Hundreds of volunteer hours have gone into this project. It is all the community folks who keep showing up to plant shrubs and trees, spread wood-chips, uproot rocks, lay paver stones, and hammer fence boards who have pulled this project together. A real community effort! Thank you!
Our 1950’s kitchen will be demolished, and replaced with a commercial-grade kitchen. Fundraising for the design and build-phases of this project have begun. So far our sponsors include: Kootenay Coop (a stainless-steel trolley), Osprey Foundation (a commercial-grade blender), Walmart (funds towards a new dishwasher/sanitizer), RDCK Areas E & F (funds towards kitchen design plans). Full steam ahead!! Hoot Hoot!
Outdoor Washroom Facility
VISION: With family gathering places outdoors, we hope to install an accessible outdoor washroom facility. This is part of our 5-year plan. Help us to make it a reality!
Ramp and Electric Door
This project is complete! We now have a cemented double-ramp and accessible electric door openers on our main doors. This was truly a community endeavour. Thanks to our amazing sponsorship for this project: RDCK Area F, Nelson Road Kings, Nelson Royal Legion Branch #51, Nelson Lions Activity Club, IODE Kokanee Chapter, Walmart, BC Rehab Society, Fortis, Nelson Day-Break Rotary Club, and Friends of Nelson Elders in Care.
